“As is the breath, so is the mind.” ~Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā

When we breathe consciously and skillfully, it has a widespread effect on us physically, mentally, and energetically. When we breathe in a particular way, the vagus nerve is either activated (while exhaling or breathing slowly) or inhibited (while inhaling or breathing rapidly), inciting a relaxing or stimulating response, respectively, in the nervous system. This can impact heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and many other bodily processes. In other words, when you know how to regulate your breath, you have the power to change your state. Studying the breath has profoundly transformed my life and has proven invaluable as a regulating tool in my studies to focus my mind, in my fast-paced work environment, in stilling my mind for my meditation practice, and much more.

I am trained in Oxygen Advantage, a science-based breathing program created by Patrick McKeown that focuses on improving health, reducing stress, and enhancing athletic performance through functional, nasal-only breathing and increased carbon dioxide tolerance. I have witnessed these techniques transform my own athletic performance as an avid aerial artist, climber, and hiker, and have seen the transformative effects in clients in collegiate athletics.

My breath coaching bridges modern science and functional biomechanics from Oxygen Advantage and hatha yoga techniques. It also draws from other modalities, including qigong, to support clients in regulating the prana (subtle breath) as well as the physical.

Sessions can be held in Asheville, NC in person or online. To learn more, fill out the form below.

“Grace taught me several very helpful breathing techniques, including one for pre-class practice that helps me get “in the zone” if I’ve had to hurry to the studio following meetings or other engagements that might make it difficult to settle down, clear my mind and focus on my yoga practice. With Grace’s help, I quickly redeveloped the confidence needed to participate in faster-paced classes typically filled with advanced practitioners. Grace also tailored her one-on-one guidance to help me learn stretching techniques to address stiffness and soreness associated with other fitness activities, such as spending possibly too much time hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains.”

“My chest felt lighter and I felt more prepared for my upcoming surgery after private breath coaching questions with Grace. She listened to all of my questions and answered them to the point I could understand. I recommend hiring a breath coach if you need assistance with intentional breathing techniques. Grace is the go-to, thanks Grace!”
